That's a lovely present. I worked at a cute little independent coffee shop called Starbucks for a while after college. In the beginning, it was overwhelming making all the drinks. Then you realize most of the drinks are just variations on the latte. Some have more foam. Some have less. And, I guess, some have...dicks?
Just got a home espresso machine and I could sure use a tutorial on making any latte art besides a sad little squiggle... at least yours has some girth! 😆
Wow, you've been introduced to a sacred art. Really cool. For a while I fantasized about being a barista in Italy. I thought it would give me an opportunity to learn the language better. In my wife's home town over there we go to two bars. One with great coffee. The other with great pastries. So it's sort of a question of what do we feel we need/want most on any given morning. Luca, the barista at our preferred coffee place, remembers how I like my cappuccino, con un po meno latte. And remembers my wife always wants a double shot in her cappuccino.
Do you hang out at Monks? Your remark about dick jokes seemed to come out of the blue. Are there references to that in other pieces of your writing?
Monks is not my go to as it’s not the closest cafe to home, but the coffee is great! I took the course there because it was a gift from friends. Did you see my latte art? Haha. That’s where the dick joke came from. :)
You're a natural! I see your upcoming book now How to Make Erotic Coffee.
I took a similar class but it was all about pour over coffee. My coffee was awful this way. The two other students in the class took it up much faster than I did. I swear I was doing the exact same thing they were doing but for some reason mine kept coming out bitter. It was like Like Water for Chocolate where maybe my emotions were coming out in the coffee.
Shortly thereafter, I had to stop drinking coffee because of perimenopause changes. I miss it! Even decaf now makes me feel sick.
Hahaha. Love that book title idea! I only started drinking coffee a few years ago, I was always a tea gal, but my boyfriend converted me… Have you substituted coffee with something else in the morning?
That's so funny because I didn't start drinking coffee until I went to Sweden when I was 47. I went from drinking nothing to black coffee. And I took to it like an obsession. I've always been a tea drinker. I went back to drinking tea and I'm happy with that although I miss coffee. There's nothing like it!
Now I want to take this course!! Thanks for sharing this lighthearted post! Made me smile. I've always thought it would be amazing to own a healthy foods cafe, where I would of course, serve espresso (obsessed)!

I’ve never heard of that cute little independent coffee shop. Lol. Some definitely have dicks! ✌🏻🤣

Hahah. It’s all about how you steam the milk! ;) But i have yet to create a heart. I try every morning!

Your experience in Italy sounds amazing!
dick jokes are always appreciated hahaha
Agreed! haha
That seems like so much fun, I'd love to do something like it!
It was a great time!
Honestly that could be your thing. Latte art with a customized dick joke? I'd pay extra for that!
Haha yeah! Could be a way to get lots of tips! :-P
You should try.
I work in Coffee shops for a long time.
I did a course to learn something about latte art.
Nice! I think it’s pretty fun!
There are some customers real dicks so you can prepare your trademark logo for them.
Yep. Exactly. Lol
🤣 Very good! Xx
Why thank you!
Try it out 😎 Dick jokes and all!
Good idea. :-P

I would leave an extra large tip for a latte like that!!
Woohoo! Thanks.

That does sound like it would be fun! My bf and I sometimes talk about how it would be fun to own a cafe. But I’m sure it’s a TON of work.
I love this. Esp because I live life daydreaming of owning a cafe at least once a week! And I love coffee 💖
Thank you! The course was fun!
